The Knots Prayer
Hello All,
I know anxiety is high at this moment. No matter what we do for a profession, we are handling unprecedented changes at work, at home and in society to combat a new virus. We will learn much about to handle similar situations in the future. We will come together in great and small ways. We will survive this.
This event does take leadership. And we are all leaders! Leadership is not always easy though. I had the great fortune of having lunch this week with two wonderful friends and excellent nurse leaders. We talked about our shared experiences, what we did well, where we could have improved…..and how our goal was to always make a positive difference. We talked about how we also had periods when we doubted our abilities or needed support. Periods when we were insecure. We often leaned on each other during those times!
Lynne shared a wonderful prayer that she has used and that she has shared with other leaders. And now I am sharing it with you. We could all use this.
The author of The Knots Prayer is unknown, or as noted as “the Author Known to God”.
“Dear God:
Please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart and my life.
Remove the have nots, the can nots and the do nots that I have in my mind.
Erase the will nots, may nots, the might nots that may find a home in my heart.
Release me from the could nots, would nots and should nots that obstruct my life.
And most of all Dear God, I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart and my life all of the ‘am nots’ that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought that I am not good enough.
Amen.
Though the times are crazy and hard, we are good enough as a country and as citizens of this great country. You are good enough as leaders. You are good enough as individuals. Never forget that.
Do good.

Thanks for the Knots prayer and the reminder. We are all fearless leaders and will go through this bump in no time together as a profession since Nitingale and into the future.
