December is here!

Hello All,

It seems like I blinked and it became December! My little mom always said that as you got older, time went by faster. She is 100% correct! There are many thoughts about why this occurs. It is related to the slowing of our metabolism (though I wish mine would speed up if a few pounds disappeared!). It is related to the amount of “perceptual information” we absorb. It is because we had no sense of time when we were young. (I could not have told you years and years ago how long a school “year” was…..but I knew when holidays and summers were coming!) Perhaps it is because we had no sense of mortality when we were young. Whatever the reason, time does seem to pass more quickly as I age. And I am quite sure that December will move quickly. It is my favorite month of the year!

This time of year is both special and stressful. The holidays, the work you are trying to stay on top of, the hustle and bustle, the meals cooked, the presents wrapped, etc. It is easy to get caught up and forget to breathe or to just be present in the moment.

Because time is fleeting, I just want to remind you to “take” time to enjoy each day! (You can’t make time, but you surely can take it!) Make a concerted effort to slow down, even if it is for 10 minutes! Take what I call an “internal picture” and create a memory of a special moment. Perhaps it is seeing the smile on a child’s face when Santa arrives or when he/she discovers where the elf pops up each day. Perhaps it is placing a special ornament on the tree and remembering who gave it to you or or where you bought it. Perhaps it is the special note you write in a card to bring a smile to another’s face. Perhaps it is sharing a meal with a dear friend. Perhaps it is watching the faces of people you love. Perhaps it is a special spiritual moment – this month is full of spiritual meaning no matter your religion.

Each day is filled with these special moments. Take time to recognize them. Take time to enjoy them. Take time to snap that internal picture and hoard that picture carefully.

You deserve every bit of the joy these bring – both in the moment and as memories!

I know this is a bittersweet time for you as the anniversary of your dad’s passing is looming. Know I love you.

It is. He loved Christmas too – not the presents (though he loved the fact that every year I bought him a $100 worth of lottery tickets! He loved those scratchers! I just prayed he won at least that much!) – he loved the fact that we all came home to be with him and little mom.
      Love you too!

Let Janee know I miss them too! Every time I have passed by Elf merchandise I have had to stop myself from buying it! I always had great fun doing this for the staff!
