A mid-week note!

Hello All,

I am just dropping in to say hello and to see what condition your condition is in! For those of us who are more “seasoned”, you might recognize the call out to the 1968 song “Just Dropped In” (to see what condition my condition is in)! The song happened to be a warning to young people to not use LSD…..and even though I am a child of those times, I did not know that was what it was about! It was the time of peace and love…..and I thought it was about self-reflection! (As Bob says, it is scary to be in my head!) “Just Drop In” also happened to be a big hit for The First Edition – whose lead singer at that time was Kenny Rogers!

So for some reason, that song and one other have been stuck in my head these last several days. “Just Dropped In” because of Kenny, but also because it reminds me to drop in via call or text with a number of people just to check on them, to be sure they are okay or if they need anything.

The other song is also from that same time (1970) and by one of my favorite duos, Simon and Garfunkel. “Bridge Over Troubled Water” was written by Paul Simon. His purpose behind the song was to provide comfort to someone who needed it. The song’s lyrics are beautiful and have brought me comfort this week too.

“When you’re weary, feeling strong. When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all. I’m on your side, oh, when times get rough. And friends just can’t be found, like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.

When you’re down and out. When you’re on the street. When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you. I’ll take your pain, oh, when darkness comes. And pain is all around. Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.

Sail on silver girl. Sail on by. Your time has come to shine, all your dreams are on their way. See how they shine. Oh, if you need a friend, I’m sailing right behind. like a bridge over troubled water, I will ease your mind.”

I am hoping I can help in some small way by writing, keeping in touch. The truth is all of you are shining as you work every day caring for others. For those of us staying home, by hopefully flattening the curve of this crazy virus so we can ease the burden on these silver women and men. I am looking forward to many dinner dates……and hopefully soon!

Once again, my deepest appreciation to and for all of you. Stay healthy.

With many virtual hugs,

Phyl
