Uncertain times
Hello All,
I love my readers! I love that you are always looking out for ways for me to improve the blog. The latest request was to add a mechanism similar to a “like button” to use if there is a blog that you really enjoy. I, of course, had to send the request to wonderful Ashish, the King of the Blog (KOB). After researching this, it can be done but it creates a burden for you. Currently you can subscribe which is an easy function for you. You just need to add your e-mail address and this allows a note to alert you when I post a new blog. In order to add features such as a like button, our KOB and you would have to create a formal account, which is a lot more work for you! So for now, we decided to keep it a simple process. If you like a particular blog, then add a comment – I read every comment! (Well, you can add a note if you don’t like a blog…..so I won’t do it again!) Keep the feedback coming!
Here is your funny for the day. I have to admit that these days are beginning to blur together! There is a wonderful television station – Fox 8 in Cleveland, Ohio – that has added a roughly one second segment called “What day is it?”. It is a hoot! This morning, Todd Meany, the anchorman, walked on and said, “It’s Friday.” His deadpan delivery is priceless. It cracks me up each time! I love it! (It may be indicative of my mental state that I find this entertaining!)
I have been writing thank you letters to the hospital staff. I try to get one out every week or so. I know their hours and days are blurring together too, for different reasons than mine. I am sharing with you what I sent to them earlier this week, because I think it gives a glimpse into the thanks we owe the frontline staff all across the nation:
I do not have a name to attribute to this quote, but a wise person once said, “When everything is uncertain, everything that is important becomes clear.” What is important is family, friends, co-workers, your fellowman, faith, love, skill/profession, care. It is not the material things we possess; it is all of the intangibles in our lives joy, laughter, peace, tranquility, kindness, hope, compassion. It is what each of you brings to the campuses – the unique beauty of YOU. It is you who have cared for patients and became their family when their own families were unable to be at the bedside. It was you who held hands, held phones to connect, held all of them together. Even on days when you didn’t feel all that put together yourself.
I know that you have heard the old saying that April showers bring May flowers. I believe that the collective tears we have shed in April – some tears of joy, others of grief and exhaustion – will lead to a magnificent May. A month of rebirth and rejoicing.
Thank you again for all that you are doing – at work or at home! Thank you for who you are.
Many virtual hugs – until we can actually hug,
Phyl
