Hello All,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am sitting in front of the computer equal parts thrilled and terrified! Thrilled because writing is something I love to do, at one point envisioning I would be the next Patricia Cornwell or Lee Child. Terrified because doing such in this much larger world of the internet is terrifying! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I digress though. Let me first introduce myself! I am Phyllis Stoneburner. I am a Registered Nurse by background. I have been a bedside nurse, recruiter, director, chief nurse executive, administrator. I laughingly tell students that I have been around as long as Florence Nightingale. (Perhaps a gross overstatement, but I am very happy for hair dye and Spandex!) <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have been blogging at work for about 8 years, writing a weekly newsletter to the staff of the hospital. The newsletter was designed to keep people up-to-date on finances, statistics, quality endeavors, etc. Hospitals, actually all sites where healthcare is provided, are fast-paced; so keeping everyone in the loop has to happen more frequently than a monthly staff meeting! But I also wanted the newsletter to be inspirational, funny, thought provoking – and always to remind us about the very human component of our jobs. Healthcare is a truly human service industry. We have all of the latest technology, medications and procedures. AND at its very core, healthcare is all about people taking care of each other – patients, their families, other providers and other staff members. We are dealers in skill, hope, grace, dignity, care, heart and compassion. Healthcare is about relationships – where we all commit to help each other throughout the journey of our lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So Phyl Phacts was born at the hospital. Phyl, because even though my mother valiantly named me to avoid a nickname, almost everyone calls me Phyl. Phacts because…..well, it looked good with Phyl! But also because the newsletters had both true facts and what the staff called “Phyl-isms”. When I retired, people asked me to still write to keep them informed. I guess I wasn’t too boring! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So welcome to this new blog! I am sure I will still share facts, after all I am a nurse and still want people to lead their healthiest and happiest lives. The blog will be rich with stories, thoughts and many Phyl-isms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Okay, I am still thrilled and terrified! And also hopeful that my weekly blogs will bring smiles, laughs, thoughtful conversation points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
