2020 Vision

Hello All,

Happy New Year!

A new month – a new year – a new decade – all starting today! How awesome is that!

I will start today’s blog with a quote and will end with another quote – from two singer songwriters who are as disparate as they can be! In a quote very fitting for New Year’s Eve, Brad Paisley said:

“Tomorrow is the first page of a 365-page book. Write a good one.”

I hope to write a great book in 2020. I must admit, I don’t make a lot of resolutions. As Nia Vardalos (actress of My Big Fat Greek Wedding fame) says “My New Year’s Resolution List usually starts with the desire to lose between ten and three thousand pounds.” I expect that as old as I am, I may have reached that 3,000 pound resolution!

I have made promises to myself to write several chapters in my book for this year – visions on how to make 2020 about foresight, not hindsight. To be a good mentor and to help other people succeed. To write a blog worthy of reading and hopefully to impart important tidbits about leadership and life……and to perhaps make you laugh! To find new ways to help make our communities healthier. To read more. To exercise more (part of that 3,000 pound thing!) To be kinder to everyone – because we all have our burdens to bear. To be a better nurse, friend, “momma”, daughter, sister and wife.

You will notice these don’t have deadlines or timetables. In order to become real, these are commitments I need to make each and every day. Will I be successful everyday? Probably not. But it does mean that I don’t drop the commitments, I just work harder at them the next day!

What will your 2020 look like? It is yours to write, to act on, to live.

I will end with a quote from one of my all time favorite artists – David Bowie:

“I don’t know where I am going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”

I don’t always know where I am going either! I think that is part of the beauty of life, this incredible journey we are all on. My wish for your journey is that it is not boring! And that it is filled with fun, joy, laughter, learnings and love!

2020 is going to be great!

Phyl

P.S. Next week I will get back to my Friday blogs! I just could not pass up the opportunity to share the holidays with you!

Happy New Year Phyllis. I really enjoyed reading this. I agree… I think each day is precious and we have great potential to impact this world for good. We can make it whatever we want it to be. We may fall short… but that’s okay… because we have another day to try again.
